I taught myself. . .

I taught myself to live simply and wisely,
to look at the sky and pray to God,
and to wander long before evening
to tire my superfluous worries.
When the burdocks rustle in the ravine
and the yellow-red rowanberry cluster droops
I compose happy verses
about life's decay, decay and beauty.
I come back. The fluffy cat
licks my palm, purrs so sweetly
and the fire flares bright
on the saw-mill turret by the lake.
Only the cry of a stork landing on the roof
occasionally breaks the silence.
If you knock on my door
I may not even hear.

"Another Sky"

There is another sky,
Ever serene and fair,
And there is another sunshine,
Though it be darkness there;
Never mind faded forests, Austin,
Never mind silent fields -
Here is a little forest,
Whose leaf is ever green;
Here is a brighter garden,
Where not a frost has been;
In its unfading flowers
I hear the bright bee hum:
Prithee, my brother,
Into my garden come!

Dair Kitni Lagti Hai. . .

Aag ho to jalney mein dair kitni lagti hai

barf ke pighalne mein dair kitni lagti hai

chahey koi ruk jaaye chahey koi reh jaaye

qaaflon ko chalney mein dair kitni lagti hai

chahey koi jaisa bhi ham_safar ho sadiyon sey

rastaa badalney mein dair kitni lagti hai

yeh to waqt k bas mein hai k kitni mohlat dey

warna bakht Dhakane mein dair kitni lagti hai

mom ka badan leykar dhoop mein nikal aana

aur phir pighalney mein dair kitni lagti hai

soch ki zaminon mein raastey juda hon to

door jaa nikalney mein dair kitni lagti ha

I Always Knew. . .

I always knew that you would be the one

The one that I could never say no to

The one that I will always run to

The one that I can never deny

The one that will always make me cry

The one that makes me feel like no one else can

The one that holds my heart in the palm of your hand

The one that has hurt me like no one else can

I always knew that you were the one

That I would love forevermore

The one that I would adore

I always knew you would be the one

To make me feel complete

To hold my hand and force sadness to retreat

I want to spend my life running to you

Never telling you no

Doing all I can to make your dreams come true

Ghazal

yeh kiya k sab sey biyan dil ki halaten karni
'Faraz' tujh ko na aaein muhabbatein karani

yeh qurb kiya hai k tu samane hai aur hamain
shumar abhi se judai ki sa'atein karani

koi khuda ho k patthar jise bhi ham chahen
tamam umer usi ki ibadaten karni

sab apne apne qarine se muntazir us k
kisi ko shukr kisi ko shikayaten karani

ham apne dil se hain majabur aur logon ko
zara si bat pe barpa qayamaten karani

milen jab un se to mubaham si guftagu karna
phir apne ap se sau-sau wazahaten karani

ye log kaise magar dushmani nibhaten hain
hamin ko ras na ain muhabbaten karani

kabhi 'Faraz' naye mausamon main ro dena
kabhi talash purani raqabaten karani

"YOU WERE THERE FOR ME"

Words escape me
at this moment
that seems like the end
yet it is only the beginning
when friendships are close
and dreams are far
you were there for me.
Tears fill me
with memories of both good and bad
some nearly forgetton
yet all dear to the heart
you were there for me.
In times of trouble
and in times of thanks
you stood by my side
and held me up.
Through your ever-patient ears
to your comforting hugs
you were there for me.
From that first day
when I saw you and knew
that you would love me for who I was
you were there for me.
And until the day
when we are old and gray
I will always know that
you are there for me.

BAS MAIN AUR TUM

IS SAAL MEIN KOI PAL TO AISA HO JO TERA MERA HO,
JIS MEIN KOI TEESRA NA HO,

HUM DAIR TAK EK DUSREY SE BATEIN KAREIN,

AUR IN BATAON KO SUNANEY WALA KOI OR NA HO ,

BAS ME AUR TUM HON,

YUNHI BAITHEY BAITHEY HUM KISI CHOTI SI BAAT PAR

BETHASHA HANS PAREIN,

HANSTEY HANSTEY ANKHON SE ANSOU NIKAL PAREIN,

IN ANSUON KO SAAF KARNEY WALA AUR KOI NA HO,

BAS MEIN AUR TUM HON,

AUR KASH IS SAAL MEIN KOI TO PAL AISA HO JO SIRF TERA MERA HO.

How Much I Love You I Can't Say

How much I love you I can't say:
It's more than words can hold.
You're all at once my rich, red clay,
My potter and my mold.

Yours the words that shaped my voice,
The spirit within mine.
Yours the will that shaped my choice,
My fortune, and my sign.

How lucky I was to have had you
At the core of me!
Wise and good, you always knew
Just what I could be.

And so I came to be someone
Whom I could be proud of.
For this I give my swollen sum
Of gratitude and love.

Dust of Snow

The way a crow
Shook down on me
The dust of snow
From a hemlock tree
Has given my heart
A change of mood
And saved some part
Of a day I had rued.

Your Name

I wrote your name in the sky,

but the wind blew it away.

I wrote your name in the sand,

but the waves washed it away.

I wrote your name in my heart,

and forever it will stay.

A Special World

A special world for you and me
A special bond one cannot see
It wraps us up in its cocoon
And holds us fiercely in its womb.

Its fingers spread like fine spun gold
Gently nestling us to the fold
Like silken thread it holds us fast
Bonds like this are meant to last.

And though at times a thread may break
A new one forms in its wake
To bind us closer and keep us strong
In a special world, where we belong.
